Update

Parents,
Happy Friday! We had a great day watching Sign of The Beaver and taking a our no excuse spelling quiz! We started a unit on an introduction of Government. We discussed what Government meant to them, why we have one, and started learning about the main aspects of our Constitution. The students are really enjoying this unit so far. They always have some fun things to throw in about the current news and debates.

Finish up our unit on Theme, Inference, and Summary
Formative on Monday
NO SCHOOL TUESDAY
Summative on Thursday
Wrapping up our Narrative Unit
Students will complete a informational writing prompt to give us a baseline to start the new unit
I will be sending home copies of their narratives graded

Reviewing for the summative:
To help students review for the summative I will be sending home a study guide MONDAY night. They should also bring home their notes in their journals to study. The test will include the following:

Summarizing- Somebody (the main character), wanted (what were they trying to do), but (what was the problem), so (how did they try to solve it), then (what was the resolution).
Summarizing Examples 

Comparing 2 stories- using RACE to compare two stories (quotes from both stories in the cite)
Fable to Compare and Contrast (and find themes)

Theme- Message or moral of the story. This is a higher level skill in which the students will have to draw deeper meaning to create a theme statement. Ex- Love never fails. Being greedy has consequences. Family always comes first.

Robotics Update:
WE GOT OUR ROBOT KITS IN! We are so happy to announce that we have the ball rolling and we are truely making progress. The students have come up with creative solutions to trash problems and started creating skits and presentations.
