Friday Update

Happy Friday,

This week we continued our unit on Text Structures. We have now covered the 5 we are testing over (compare and contrast, problem and solution, cause and effect, sequence of events, and description). Students have been both identifying the structures in nonfiction reading passages and writing their own that follow the structures.

In Social Studies we have continued our focus on the Age of Exploration with learning their tools, the routes they took, and their motivations. 

In Writing we have started researching for our informational writing papers for the quarter. They picked a topic and have generated research questions, found sources, and located a book in the library to take notes on also. 

Next week we will continue all three of the focuses listed above. We will complete our reading unit, finish our notes, and finish our unit on exploration.

Reminders:

Our big reminder for the week is that we have set a date for our semester book assignments. They are due on December 15th. The students were given a list of possible book assignments (on an earlier post if you scroll down). They will have time in class to work on them but several of the options will need to be finished outside of class. To celebrate their reading accomplishments, you should have received an invitation to "The Reading Showcase". It will be the students time to show off their semester of work to all of you! If you have any questions let me know.

****If anyone would like to volunteer to build the mat table we are taking volunteers! We thought we may not need it, but due to the placement of some obstacles we do. The plans can be sent to you. We will pay in thank you cards and candy:)
